Proven Success with over 45 years of experience
Usually a student struggling in math has missed a concept(s) in the past
I prioritize classwork as much. as possible to help the student succeed in the classroom.
Any math skill that the student needs, but they're weak in it or don't know it, I will teach and practice it with them.
I teach how to translate between English and math, and teach the vocabulary of math to help the student understand math.
I never say or act like a student "should" know something. I just figure out what they know and teach them the next thing. I use variety in each class to make it more interesting and make progress in more than one topic. Students will receive flash cards and homework to practice at home.
Linley is a kind and patient woman who loves learning. When she tutored me, she was willing to repeat the steps until I was able to understand the math. Linley is very talented in math, but also knows how to break it down into easy steps for those of us who don't have her talent. I recommend Linley for math tutoring without hesitation.
I enjoy getting the feedback that I need. With many teachers, you just learn what your score was, instead of why you got a certain grade or what you did wrong. Once I got into math tutoring, I learned how to learn and went from failing 6th grade math and science to A’s in 7th grade. My classmates think I am really smart in math and ask me how to do the homework. And a few weeks ago, I moved up to Honors Math! I am proud of myself for working so hard and getting good at math.
Our daughter was struggling in every subject and she hated math. It was an overwhelming challenge. Linley makes everything logical. Now my daughter loves math and adores Linley. Tutoring has changed her whole outlook and self-image. My daughter has not needed extra help in any other subject; she has figured it out from her foundation in math. After failing math and science in 6th grade, she earned an A in both subjects in 7th. We couldn’t be happier. It’s worth the drive no matter the distance.
My granddaughter B experienced significant disabilities from epilepsy. Math in particular seemed to be a black hole.
Linley has been able to change all of that. I was shocked as I watched B do math exercises that I thought were impossible for her. Linley created ways to help B learn with props and supplies. B really enjoys her time with Linley. Our whole family is overjoyed. We thought B would have to go through life without the math skills that are so important. Thanks to Linley she won’t.
My daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy at only 18-months-old. Despite years of special ed classes in math, my daughter was still at a first-grade level when she was in 5th grade. Linley is an incredible math tutor. Her ability to effectively communicate material, along with her dedication, compassion, and patience has had a profound effect on my daughter’s confidence. My daughter now shows pride in her math skills that she never would have achieved within the public school system.
